Hair and beauty students have been called
on to help a theatre school put on an unforgettable show.
After reading about
our Challenge Highbury campaign in The News, the Victory Land Theatre
School in Portsmouth sent in a nomination.
They want students from Highbury College to do the hair and make-up of
more than 100 cast members for their show-stopping Peter Pan production
at the Kings Theatre in October.
The director of the school in Fraser Road, Southsea, told The News it
could be a great experience for any hair and beauty students who are
interested in pursuing a career in the theatre.
Lorraine Hepburn said: 'It will be quite a task, having 100 plus cast
members, to get them all made up.
'If we had a team from Highbury working together that would be a really
big plus.'
Victory Land is a performing arts school which caters for pupils from
four to 18 years old.
Mrs Hepburn said: 'As an ex-Highbury student myself I'm well aware of
Highbury and when we saw this challenge we thought it was a great idea.
'Not only would this help our kids who will perform at the Kings but it
would be an opportunity for Highbury to take part in something which is
great fun.'
The production of Peter Pan will give hair and beauty students at the
college a chance to experiment with a variety of styles of make-up.
There will be Edwardians, as well as pirates, the lost boys and mermaids
amongst other characters from the JM Barrie epic.
Mrs Hepburn added: 'We think this is something a little bit different
and will stretch the students in a different way.
'It will give them the opportunity to gain a variety of experience and
also to do something which they would not normally do.
'They will be working with lots of different age groups and we feel it
would be something which is a good challenge for them and not something
just for the sake of it.'
A panel of judges will pick the successful Challenge Highbury
nominations on March 5
