Based on the Gospel as told by St
Mathew, this Broadway and Westend hit musical of the 70's, "Part
Rock, Part Revival" sprang from the youth culture of the
swinging sixties and offered it's first audiences a contemporary
approach on the worlds most famous story.
The score of 'Godspell' calls upon a wide variety of modern
musical influences, including Rock, Gospel and Ragtime, with
such familiar songs as "Day by Day", "Prepare Ye", and "By My
Side" providing the musical colour.
The parables of The Widow, The Pharisee, the Tax Gatherer, The
Unforgiving Servant, The Good Samaritan, Lazarus, The Prodigal
Son, and The Sermon on the Mount, they tell the story of the
passion of Jesus Christ, and teach joy and love into the hearts
of people, rather than hate and sadness.
Though everyone will already know how the story ends, the play
is far from predictable, providing both laughs and tears.
One caveat- this show is not for small children. The betrayal
and crucifixion scenes are too scary for the very small ones.
Leave this show for the over tens, who have learnt the story
from School and Church already, and can handle the description. |
